Running Mac OS X and Pioneer 103 DVD/RW won't work

i've got a pioneer cd/rw dvd/rw 103 and i previously burned a CD or two, using roxio titanium toast software, and now i can't burn a dvd (i'm just trying to save a little quicktime movie!) i insert the CD and it asks "please insert a recordable disk" which of course i'm using stapels recordable DVD-r and some memorex CD-r disks and i can't burn anything any more! it just makes noise and then spits the CD or DVD back out at me!?!?! usually after a long message of 'waiting for the writer" i just got this thing used and really hope to god it's going to work for me . . . ?! any advice is hugely appreciated. also if you need more info, just let me know, i'll check back every few hours, anyone who had any advice, i appreciate it!!!
