Basically, i have a dud ps2 dvd drive.
It reads dvd's/game discs, but will not read cd's

I have HD loader and a hdd, plus memory card.

I cant actually load hd loader (because its a cd)and am wondering if there is any way aroundit, by not having to use the cd??

What i want to know is that is there any way to install hd loader onto my memory card, and boot hd loader off of the memory card?

(i am using my friends ps2 to install the memory card exploit)

Ta

does your ps2 play ps1 games (you have to load a ps1 game to run the exploit)?

just figured this one out, after ftp'ing it

it can be installed and ran fully off the memory card, with no ps1 disc needed...look

if i did the conversion right, it comes out to $215, which is a huge ripoff. you could just buy a new ps2 on ebay and use the hd loader you have.

yeah, i know...i already have all the kit.

looks like my only way out is to either 1: buy a new ps2, or 2: get a new drive :(

it used to work...

yeah...and the whith click wheel, with distance.

read about the voltage fix, but dont fancy that...

just found this on PSX forum:
Quote:
Q How do I install HD loader to my memory card (DMS3 Devmode 1) ?

A Obtain HLOADER.ELF of size = around 640KB
Now create a CDR containing the following

HDLOADER.ELF
SYSTEM.CNF

Using notepad edit SYSTEM.CNF, and copy and paste the following in:

BOOT2 = cdrom0:\HDLOADER.ELF;1
VER = 1.0
VMODE = NTSC

INSTALL.CNF - Again edit this file with notepad and copy and paste the following in:

HDLoader 1.0
mc0:\BOOT\HDLOADER\HDLOADER.ELF
_MKDIR mc0:\BOOT\HDLOADER
_COPY cdrom0:\HDLOADER.ELF;1 mc0:\BOOT\HDLOADER\HDLOADER.ELF

Double check your CDR contains the following:

HDLOADER.ELF
SYSTEM.CNF
INSTALL.CNF

Then using your favourite burning software burn the disk in Mode2.

Tip, if you'd like your PS2 to boot straight into HDloader rather than DMS's explorer,
rename HDLOADER.ELF to BOOT.ELF along with all references to the file in SYSTEM.CNF and INSTALL.CNF

Trouble shooting, if your disk will not boot in your PS2, try adding some dummy files to your CDR
can you make sense of this??
can i not just ftp hdloader.elf straight to the mc, rather than creating the disc?

...so what once i've burned the cd??

will i need swopmagic to run it?

i dont get it...if i change it to boot.elf, will the ps2 just straight boot to hdloader, if i just ftp the boot.elf adn system+install files onto the mc.

someone explain the workings...

it doesn't matter if you get it on the memory card, you have to be able to load a ps1 game to run the exploit.

what you are trying to do will NOT work. You HAVE to find a way to get a PS1 disk to load on your ps2.

Look at it this way, right now it is NOT functioning at all for HDD. So if you open it up and play with the voltage setting on the cd laser you may get it to work. But then again you may not. Right now though it is NOT working. SO you really have nothing to lose.

But for the price of a new laser you may as well go for that. $50 and its yours. Then you can do everything like new again.
