problem booting mediaplayer with a DTL-H30002 S debugging unit

I have a DTL-H30002 S debugging unit, it will already play my ps1 backups without the swipe card /mod chip, but, it won't run mediaplayer. when you go into the ps2 browser it just says my cd is a "playstation disk" but wwon't run it, even with the swipe card trick.

has anyone got any ideas as to why this might be?
