MC Exploit + No-Solder ModChip = Black Screen?

I will attempt to detail my situation in full. I've tried about 20-30 different combinations of the exploit. Good thing I have plenty of blank CD's!

My Setup:
Version 5 PS2 (NTSC)
No-Solder Mod Chip
Swap Magic CD 3.2
Swap Magic DVD 2.0

I've tried downloading many different exploits and installing them. I tried the one from the website that is often linked from these forums. The exploit loads to the memory card fine. When I restart the PS2 with the trigger game (either Madden '99 or NHL Faceoff '97), it appears to trigger the exploit, but then the screen just goes black and stays that way.

Again, I've tried about every combination that I can think of. I've tried the Title.db that comes with the exploit and I've tried the one that you can make from the PHP page. I've tried putting BADATA in the Title.db and I've tried leaving it as BRDATA. And yes, I have the right codes in the Title.db file. I've checked them many times. I got them straight out of the system.cfg files on the CD's themselves.

Anything else I can try? I'm out of ideas!
