Problems with burning HDLoader...

I'm trying to back up my HDLoader, but I cannot burn it. I searched the PSX/PS2 forum and I couldn't find anything about backing it up. I'm using Alcohol 120% to burn it, and I'm wondering what modes should I put it in. Also I'm wondering do I have to use DVD-Rs to burn it, or is a CD-R good enhough?

I hear that the HDLoader has loads of protection on it, and that I can not burn it unless I get a cracked version online. Is this true?

AH!, here is the ultimate question, do I have to have the HD and the network adaptor in for the boot disc to work? Because when I put in the burned boot disc, it says insert a PS2 game. Maybe I burned it correctly, but I need the HD and the network adaptor in?
