I haven't used the dvd-rom on my computer for a while, but when I tried yesterday I got a my media player crashed on start-up. I seemed to get the same crash whether I was using WMP-10, realplayer-7 or power-dvd (v. 2.5 japanese). I was unable to play the dvd with any media player.

The microsoft crash report suggests the problem is with power-dvd, and recomends contacting them. However, they don't seem to have any available tech support. (the power-dvd was pre-installed, and they dont seem to give tech support in that case). At any rate I couldn't upgrade to power-dvd 2.55 with the tool from their site, mayby a language mis-match.

Quite a lot has happened to my computer since last I played a dvd, not least SP2. That might be a problem.

My dvd-rom is a samsung sd-616 and the dvd plays back on a play-station2 correctly.

questions: Why might all the media players now not be able to playback dvds? Can I get a (free) replacement for powerdvd? or can I fix power-dvd somehow?
