Need Help With Nero Recode !!

Im currently using nero recode to convert dvd to mpeg4 and the picture quality is brilliant, my problem is tha some dvds will not open in such a way that it shows the longest file (main movie) instead it opens the VOB files and i can not convert them, I need to know what is missing to enable it to open and analyze all dvds the right way, I know there is a way coz a certani punk i know manages to convert any dvd but just wont tell me what he did !!
