ive read that people couldnt get some games to backup correctly because of the media they used. i was just wondering if it were really the media and not the burner? i have a sony 8x dual layer burner, and i have backed up games onto the cheapest media i could find and it worked fine. so is it really the media at fault? also... ive heard that cheaper media is bad for the lazer, is this true? if so, then ill stop using the cheap brands.

Most of the time is the media. The laser has work harder to read backups but its even more difficult to read bad media. I would recommend using ritek ridata http://store.yahoo.com/meritline/ritek-ridata-g04-4x-dvd-r-blank-media-disc-matte-1.html (cheap). However, if the cheap media works, then continue using it. (but don't be suprised if ur laser dies)

I don't get why your laser would be damaged. It just emits a light beam. If the media is bad, I would think it just wouldn't read properly and be more prone to hangs and crashes. But damaging the laser?
