problem with HDAdvance 2.0

i recently purchased HDAdvance 2.0 and a network adapter and am wondering how exactly does it work. I understand the HDAdvance plays or boots PS2 games from the HDD. Do I have to insert the original disc to convert it to the HDD? But if I have the dvd image of the game on the HDD already, done via DVD Decrypter, can I still play it using HDAdvance 2.0 without putting the original in and converting? If you don't understand what I am asking, I am just asking if "loading the original PS2 game into the PS2 and then converting it on to the HDD via HDAdvance 2.0" is the only way to do it?
I am currently using a standard IDE drive.
