burner will NOT work with DVD R but WILL work with RW

Hello,

I recently bought a laptop with a QSI DVD burner. It is supposed to work with +/- R and RW.

I have managed to get a couple of +R and -R discs to burn using Nero 5 but have had many, many more fail during the burn. Also, so far every RW disc I have tried has worked perfectly.

One other thing I have noticed is that if I put in a blank RW disc, XP will ask what I would like to do with it (eg burn using Nero, etc). However, if I put in a blank R disc, XP just ignores it as if the drive were empty.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can get this thing working with recordable discs and not just RW's?
