What you have to do is burn the firmware to a cd-r and then insert it into your cd tray. Now put your ps2 on standby. After you do that press and hold the reset button until the blue light turns on. The cd should now boot. I know what you mean that ur ps2 cant read disks right now but the firmware should be read.

I still havent had any time to work on it. I still havent bought my multi meter to test all the points. I just hope it works. I belive that the chip is faulty but then again it could be my connections. Thats why im getting the multi meter.

Thank you . I was able to upgrade the firmware.
Now I can only read PS1 backup disks. It wont read DVD's. I will start a new tread on this subject.

I have this same problem...is there any way of doing the firmware upgrade via just a memory card? my cd/dvd drive has stopped working and I need to get my infinity firmware up to 1.38 to have HD compatability. Should I try this reset trick too? When I put in a cd the drive just spins up really fast and it sounds really unhealthy, apparently my LA chip might have blown (i've tried cleaning, tuning and replacing the laser).

Also what sort of hardware can I use to connect a memory card to a pc so I can transfer the firmware to the memory card.

thanks a lot for any help or advice, i really appreciate it

Well if u want the firmware on the memory card the best thing and easiest thing you should do is just take it to one of your friends and upload the firmware on ur memory card through their ps2.
