when im burning a iso onto a dvd, my read buffer will sometimes start to drop from 100 to almost 0, then it will go back up. what could be cuasing this. both IDE's are set on dma. i have 1 gig of ram, and nothing running while i am burning. pls help me. i searched these forums alittle, and saw no topic about this.

Not to worry, your buffers are your drive's shock absorbers.

Just like the family car couldn't be driven very far without some form of shocks to even out the road the transfer of data needs to be made smooth so that your backup has an even picture and audio transfer.

The more the jumps (like your 0 to 100) the more it's necessary to take it easy on the drive. Remember, a "jumping " buffer is a happy buffer.
