I thought the company that made gt4 is part of sony?
So they must have some say on what protection scheme is implemented?

The PS3 will have a different protection no doubt.They are going to use Blu-Ray discs that itself is a different protection.Will Blu-Ray burners be affordable when Sony releases it's new PS3 system.I highly doubt it,unless you can afford to spend a grand on a Blu-Ray burner.GT4 has it's own encryption code whether it is PTP or OTP.I think Toxic said something about making a patching program for no mod users,but not sure if they will release that anytime soon.I do think that we need some sort of patch to bypass those dvd checks.Reason why of course,when you plug the game in it automatically checks for the Dvd checks.A modchip can bypass the checks making it work,so it doesn't have any similarities with PS3.If people can already play the game with a modchip now,then eventually the Dvd checks will be revealed with some sort of patch for unmodded users A.K.A. Swap Magic and HDD users.Hey Gamer66 the GT4 PSS movie extractor is not right man.I already tested it out,it will give you 66 movie files(66.pss files).This is not right,because when I checked with CubeMedia2 it gives you 65 movies when you scan from the disc.You should come up with 65 movies,if you scan the sectors and 156.ss2 sound files.Sixty five of the .ss2 sound files are linked with the movie files.As for viewing the files in the .VOL and rebuilding them,we could actually come up with the right build of the game.The problem still lies in the Dvd checks,which still are a mystery.I think that is the only thing stopping it from working.If you notice God of War,you could play the game if you just had the first .PAK file compiled.The God of War game didn't have any special kind of protection for Dvd checks like GT4 has,so that game worked like a charm reconstructing both .PAK files together and deleting the bonus videos from the game.GT4 is missing one fix that I think not alot of people are looking at(Dvd checks).If you can find them,then you should be able to get the game working.The Volume extractor you are using also Gamer66 doesn't work.It displays false information,the best one I have used so far is probably the volview program from Zandal.I don't know if this game will ever be backed up by any of us just extracting and rebuilding.It still has be patched,which I highly doubt will be anytime soon.If you know how to use ppf-o-matic and Apache in conjunction you could probably make a Dvd5 patch.I don't know only time will tell,as for GT4 being unbreakable.I highly doubt it,any game can be backed up.Whether it is from Sony or any other Company that thinks they have some protection that will last forever.The protection is fairly new,and will probably be broken in a couple months if not weeks.

Nah it was Sony that implemented this new protection.The company that made the game probably ask for some protection when Sony pressed the discs.Any company that works for Sony,has to go through Sony's service of getting the games verified,pressed,rated...etc.

GT4.VOL=2.29Gig
GT4L1.VOL=2.41Gig
Equals up to 4.7Gig when both are joined together.

If the theory of the second layer being burnt in reverse or whatever has any merit why not open up your dvd burner after the first layer has been extracted reverse the wires to the spindle motor so it spins in reverse and thus burns in reverse?Please note I accept no responsibility for destroying your burner or creating a coaster.Worth a try as this seems to be one of the only methods not yet tried!!!!

Nah I definately would not do that crowy,you could end up screwing up your dvd burner for one.The other would be how would you pause a dvd burning program to even burn like that.Maybe a emulated image,but no that would be insane man.No game is worth that much trouble,destroying a precious a dvd burner.Keep looking into ppf patching,that will solve the issue as for the dvd checks.You can burn the game,but the problem is the dvd checks to be honest.When you plug the game in,it will boot to a certain part then just freeze.So it isn't how you burn it,it is working on locating the dvd checks.How can we go about this?or what would be a good method to remove these dvd checks that make the game pause an so forth?These are the kind of answers I would like to see in getting this game to work.I know that the IOPRP300.img is the cause for the Dvd checks,but so far from what I have been messing with in patching programs.Nothing has successfully been able to actually identify the dvd checks in this image.

Not sure,was kinda wondering that myself man.I guess it seems logical though,some NTSC/PAL games differ in size.They are not always equal in size,so this would be in the category of size difference.

cd/dvd rom generator 1.50 allows you to create dual layer discs and you can specify what goes to each layer.

Hey wats up I made two .ppf patches one is for the IOPRP300.img file and the other is for the SCUS 973.28 file.I am not sure if they would work or not,but hopefully they work.I tried making a patch for the CORE.GT4 file,but no information was found for that.So it isn't the CORE.GT4 that is blocking it,rather it is the IOPRP300.img or it could be the SCUS 973.28 file either one of those.

hey i took your advice and i contacted my installer and he said my chip will either be a duo 2 or a marspro which suks ass cuz looks like theres no hope of my ps2 playing my attemps at back ups ne time soon seens how team toxic only cares bout DMS4 chips so im stuffed if know guys but my installer asked me to bring down a copy of gt4 on dual layer disc so he can test it on a new marspro he recently recived with some new codeing he says so maybe this new chip might be all right. and jus a question has ne one this board tried a burnt dual layer copy on a duo 2 or marspro?

The Duo2SE chip can boot the backup,but you have to have the original in conjunction with it.You have to eject the tray and keep plugging the original in the PS2 to have it play,but without the original for a Duo2SE no it won't.I am going to go apply the ppf patches I made,and see if they work.I made two of them for two different files.I couldn't make the option to undue the patch though,seems like the program I am using doesn't allow this option.I went and tried out a different one also,but it only supports .GI files global images.So I will keep messing around with the game,but the dvd checks have to be removed somehow by a patch or either a patching program.

ok well keep trying mate cuz im starting to get frustrated that i am sharing with my neighbour and im also dissapointed that the programmers out there havnt done ne thing to fix this yet i am not a 100% sure i have a duo2 it could be a mars2. im guessing u got a duo2 seens how u talked earlya about testing it with swaping the orignal and the burnt copy but i was wondering have u ever heard of mars2 and are they ne good and ive read to many articles of pplz taking there ps2 case off puting it bac together and it not working my bro would kill me if that happened so i aint game enough to brake the eject ribbon. man i hope theres a fix for this game soon im going market on sunday maybe theyll have a copy there cuz if theres overseas copies going around theylll have it for sure. cuz they import games over.( market buy strictly for research)

maybe that extra space is cuz of the different resolutions of the videos? cuz they are so long videos and PAL is higher in resolution if I rememba rite.
just a thought..

so, is it really true. i heard that team toxic are not going to bother making a patch for people without the ps2 mds4 mod. that they want people to buy a dms4, and that theres no point of making a patch for one game. when more games on dl discs are going to be released.
please tell me if this is true.

I'm not an expert about ps2 copying, but why does somebody speak using DL DVD-R disks to copy GT4?
I know that Mitsubishi has already start to commercialize their DL DVD-R.
Thank you
