i was told with using HDloader and HD Advance with the Sony 40gig HDD that comes with FF11 will give Sony the ability to scan your drive to see if your backing up games. How often do they do this or how/when? my friend has the 40 gig hd and i was going to give him the independence Exploit and the Free HDLoader. but hes afraid because he was told sony can scan his HDD and find you

chances that sony is actually doing the scan? probably slim. I'd double check your EULA for any clauses involving "usage statistics" and such.

As for everyone saying that you're paranoid, how do they know? Unless you're sticking a man in the middle between your ps2 and the line out of your residence, you honestly don't know.

Microsoft already does this. Who's to say sony doesn't. Programmically, its actually very easy to embed a routine that scans your system and sends off stats to sony.

This does give me something to play with though. Time to tcpdump everything coming out of my ps2!

It's not that farfetched fellas. Microsoft scans all the time to xbox live.

i'd say thats untrue.
Microsoft scans for backups because xbox live is theirs to do as they see fit with.
on the PS2 sony would have to make agreements with the game makers, as it is the producers responsiblilty to include net play and the likes for their games if they want, its got nothing directly to do with sony there.
but then again, it could happen i guess...
