mpeg1 playback length problem

i downloaded a video mpeg1 file when i want to play the file with windows media player the length is incorrect like only 1 min.
if i play the file with vlc player it plays it full length. ?
i used avicodec and it says the codec is supported
i used g-spot and in the info it cant display the right filesize example (49.1 MB (or 50,369 KB or 51,578,826 bytes) plz help is appriciated
