Has the unit ever been dismantled before? Maybe to fit a mod chip?
I had the same symptoms on my v9 after an unsuccessful attempt to install a infinity. I damaged one of the vias and pull the track off for the alternative 'G' point on the back of the main board, luckily I managed to bypass it.
Though the symptoms are the same I wouldnt have thought it would be the same thing unless it has been taken apart before?

thanks for the reply, there are traces of solder on the pads by the bios chip so it's a possibility that a mod has been attempted at some point, have checked all the connection points and they all seem ok, have even used desoldering braid on the bios chip to make sure that there no traces of solder left behind, the via points seemed ok on my initial inspection but will have a closer inspection of the via's to check them out

I would suggest perhaps checking the circuit from the via on the back of the board to the relevant pin on the chip, with a multimeter, as the via may have come off the top of the board if it has been overheated. If this is the case you wouldnt see it as its under a chip.
Hope this helps.
