A Mod chip is used to play imported and backed-up games that you personally own. If you get one for xbox You don't need a bigger hard drive. If you do deside to buy a mod chip you have just bought the "gateway" mod that lets you do pretty much anything with your xbox. Install a new hard drive, Install a new dashboard, install emulators or maybe turn you xbox into a linux server. Thats why when most people buy xbox mod chips they not only do it to play backed-up games, but also to make their xbox more exiciting and not to have a boring ol' xbox that their 5 year old neighbor has.
