I bought a 2nd hand version 5 PS2 about a month ago, and later on I got my flip top lid with Swap Magic DVD and Swap Magic CD 3.0. At first, there were no problems with both discs, all ran fine. But I did notice that the Swap Magic CD doesn't load all the time (i.e. loading up and then going back to the red Playstation screen where it says "Please insert a Playstation disc". But this just requires 1-2 resets and it'll load up fine. Most of the time it does load up with no problems.
Then about 3 weeks later I noticed that the Swap Magic CD loads up the title screen, BUT the disc NEVER stops trying to load, meaning that I cannot get to the point where it I get the options (i.e. Normal boot/PAL/NTSC etc.), and the disc never stops spinning. Again I need to reset 2-3 times in order for it to be successful.
Now it's a month, and I find that the PS2 has difficulties even reading the Swap Magic CD, because the laser disc drive makes loads of weird noises when I switch the PS2 on or reset or eject/re-enter, you know like loads of drive stopping/starting, speeding up really fast/slowing down/speeding up, and the laser also making dribble noises lol...its really difficult to get it to load because of this, but then eventually I do manage to load it 100% and work because it just loads on a kind of 'one-off' chance - just like that!! Weird. And even then if it loads 50% it has difficulties and the drive still makes a lot of noise, which never used to in the past. But in the end it gets there!
I've tried cleaning the Swap Magic CD, but no good. There are no scratches (which also proves why it works eventually) and I look after my discs extremely well. I haven't tried the disc out on another persons PS2 yet.
However, the Swap Magic DVD works fine, loading up everytime I use it, same for all the backup games, running absolutely fine.
Any advice please? Is the laser wearing out/becoming faulty? Or has the SM CD disc turned faulty?
Thanks in advance.
