i Have a ps2, hard drive (maxtor) and a network adaptor.
first step i believe is simply to attatch the hard drive to the netwprk adaptor, and then screw the network adaptor onto the ps2?
then, if i have HD advance cd/dvd, do i just put it in to load it?
bearing in mind that my ps2 soes not have a mod-chip, how do i play back up games/dvdr?
i was going to get a flip top and swap magic cds/dvds, are these necessary to play backups?
if they are then could someone explain the process to me for getting a game onto your hard-drive from the beginning, using these two procedures. if you could start from the stage where id just installed the hard drive and nothing else then this would be SO much appreciated.

boot your hdadvance disk. you may be asked to format your hard drive. this must be done before you can use it. it only needs to be done once.
1) On the hdadvance menu, choose 'Convert'.
2) Insert your original game disk and press 'X' on your controller. (copied games won't work without a mod.)
3) Give it a name.
The game will begin to copy. (takes up to 20 mins)
Once copy is complete, press 'X' on your backed up game in the left panel to run it.
Be aware that some games require you to change the compatibility mode in order for them to work properly.
This can be done by pressing 'Select' on your controller when you have highlighted your game.
Compatibility lists can be found by doing a google search.

say i got a flip top therefore and swap magic, how would this work in CONJUNCTION with HD advance? this is what i think, if people could correct me then that would be good!
1. load up ps2 with HD Advance disk in drive
2. get to HD Advance and click convert
3. insert swap magic disk
4. when prompted, insert backup disk
5. HD Advance would then load this back up to the hard drive
is this all correct?is this the way it works? if anyone could let me know then i would be SO grateful, as i need to know whether i will nedd a flip top and swap magic at all, (bearing in mind my main aim is to play backups off a hard drive!)
Heres the correct method.
To install backups:
Load HDLoader/Advance, press eject at the main menu and put in any HIGH TOC DVD original.. press eject to close the tray. let the Ps2 read the disc(20 secs) then select CONVERT, disc will stop spinning. Now fliptop or slidecard for the backup and select ok to install it.
you dont need to use swap magic.
