DVD-R noobie, what are the differences between 8x and 4x

i was just wondering what is the difference between 4x and 8x and which brand would be the best for dvd burning. Can anyone help me out and give me a site to buy blank dvd media at? Thanks alot!!!

i buy taiyo yuiden they are consider the best by most of what i have read and use i buy the 8x even though i burn at 2x it only take 30 mins for 2x (full 4.7gig)
it not like i burn dvd every day i buy my at www.supermediastore.com, they do not sell fake brand dvd-+r.
so you hav eto beware of that if you shopping online for media they also have a program that let you know what brand your media is somewher eon the FAQ part if you planning to buy media from somewhere else
