DVD Studio Pro burning

I'm using DVD Studio Pro ..... when I burn a DVD it works well on a set-top machine ... I can also successfully burn to the hard drive and then view my DVD on a (software) DVD Player. However, when I burn to a DVD and then try to play it on a (software) DVD Player, it doesn't work .... nothing shows. Do I have my format settings incorrect or something??
