AVI/MPEG to vob encoding problems

Hi I'm new to this forum but I hope you good people could help? I am at a complete lose!!! I am trying to convert AVI/MPEG files to vob for DVD burning and my PC freezes about a 1/4 of the way through the encoding process. I have tried lots of encoding apps and the same happens! I have even updated my codecs to no joy! I have even reformatted my HDD and not installed SP2!

PLEASE SOMEONE OUT THERE HELP ME!!!!!!!!! :-((((

I have now fixed the problem!!!! I needed to update the ASPI layer. I can now get an AVI to convert to VOB. However, now the audio is either out of sync or not there at all??????
