Can i just put a regular game in (with cover off) and after right b4 it says playstation, switch the discs?

ive traded with a ps1 swap disc, but that just freezes on the ps logo, ive tried with gs v.4 but it auto ejects, and ive tried withe gs v.2 but it wont read on my ps2
