How to rip subtitles from TV movie (via TV -> MiniDV camcoder -> PC (AVI))?

Hi all,
I am recording TV movie into DivX by the following steps:

1. Recording the movie from TV (NTSC) to MiniDV camcoder via A/V connector
2. Transfer movie to computer via IEEE1394
3. Converting the AVI file (encoded with Microsoft DV(NTSC)) into DivX 5.02
This works fine for me.

Question: How to rip subtitles from AVI file (encoded with Microsoft DV(NTSC))?

Originally, while on TV, the movie has subtitles ("closed captioning") that can be turned on/off by "Mute" button from TV remote control, and therefore subtitles are going in separate stream, rather than rendered into picture.
Also I checked that AVI file on PC contains those subtitles (because I can cut/edit the AVI, move it back onto tape in MiniDV camcoder, and then see those subtitles (switching on/off) while playback to TV).
So, the question is how to extract the those subtitles from AVI.

I tried various subrip utilities from the web and found that ripping subtitles designed for DVD is somewhat different, because DVDs have VOB file and deal with OCR. In my situation I have only AVI file.

Any help and ideas are very appreciated.
