i'm looking to buy a mod chip, 160 gig hd, and a network adapter for my ps2.. i *think* its a v4, maybe a v1.. its really old.. i cant tell 10 or 8 screws but has electrical sticker on the bottom..- anyways.. im new to this whole modding thing, and am wondering what the best chip is to get.. i have a brother who is going to be an electrical engineer, should be able to solder well.. but dont want to risk screwing up my ps2..

what all do you guys suggest i get?

thanks

I have a Matrix Infinity which works brilliant, hasn't failed me yet. I fitted mine myself with little problems, so if your bro's an electrical engineer and is good at soldering, he shouldn't have too much trouble.

The homebrew version does. You just download the new firmware, burn to cd and put in your PS2. As simple as that.

Shouldnt do, can only make things better. When you boot a dvd it should tell you what version youve got underneath the white "Playsation2" text on the black screen. Should say something like "Infinity V1.x"

if you purchase a matrix infinity from the US, like divineo.com then will it be a homebrew version or a full version?

Not entirely sure about US, but I think most Infinity Matrix sold now are homebrew.

will dms4 be easy to use, allow me to save my games as backups to my hd and play them from there, as well as allowing me to play online, etc? what chip is the best for easy use to save games to the hd and allow you to play them from there?

would i then be able to play those games flawlessly, and online?

whats the advantage to the matrix infinity or the dms4??

is it possible to put games from the computer onto the hd and not have to use the disk from hdadvance?

The matrix infinity and dms4 offer autodetect so u put in any type pf dvd, cd whatever and it will boot it up. There is a way to put games directly on your harddrive using a computer and without using the disks, however you need to get a program called winhip. Im not sure although i think that you need a modchip to play games off your harddrive if you arent using hd loader. Im not 100% sure though.

xfade, doctors aren't necessaraly the best people to put an IV in someone. You don't have to be an aspiring EE or an actual EE to solder better than the next man.
