ps2 dvd drive wont spin or eject since magic V on V7

I modded my V7 ps2 a while ago. It was working intermittently until last week it stopped loading dvd-r backups all together. I checked all connections to the best of my abilities and decided it was best to de-mod my ps2.

One of the reasons I wanted to de-mod, was because the condition got worse by not even spinning the dvd drive on boot up. I removed all connections and cleaned up solder points.

The dvd drive still wont respond. I have noticed that the ribbon cable that connects to the on/off/eject buttons has a break in one of the wires that makes the button only work if it is in the right position.

Does anyone have any experience with this one? I'm at a loss.
