hey guys i'm new and not that bright.
i have an external 100 gig WD hardrive usb2 and when i rip a dvd using dvd-decryptor i get an error on the opening page that reads - does not support fat32 single files.

i have ripped about 10 movies and get no other errors during the process but i haven't actually burned any of the files to dvd yet as i'm in the process of buying a dual layer burner.

am i going to have problems? i apologize in advance if this has already been covered!

thank you - chef

What mode are you using to back up these files with Decrypter, you may want to check out this guide
http://www.dvdshrink.info/dvd-decrypter.php
Also if you have a dvd rom on your computer you should have Power DVD or another codec to view movies. You can use this to open files on your drive and preview them.

wild,
thanks for your reply. i've got it set up as 'all files' just like that tutorial you sent me advises.

i haven't noticed any problems, it's just that my main drive (c) is NTFS and my external is FAT32. when i DECRYPT to (c) drive no error appears at startup. when i choose to DECRYPT to external i get that exclamation point thing and the error that states "does not support fat32 single files 4gig" (i am paraphrasing because my computer is at home and i can't remember verbatum).

i guess i was just wondering if DVD DECRYPTOR doesn't support fat32. i have the newest version of DECRYPTOR.

thanks again.

Hey Chefy, I had the same problem that you had.
I take it that your using Decryptor in the Mode-Iso-Read setting, and getting an .mds and .iso when your done. The problem is that FAT32 systems only support file sizes up to 4-Gigs. Since most newer DVD's are upwards of 7-8 Gigs they just don't fit.

After some research I found you can either use Decryptor in the File mode, which gives your several smaller files. Or if you have win XP you can convert your drive over to NTFS. Here's a link that should explain everything.

Well hope that helps you out some, and on a note, I was very apprehensive about doing it to my drive since I had some important home movies and such stored. But it was quick and easy and haven't found a single corrupted file.

As OU812Ono has stated FAT32 does not support files larger than 4Gb.

You could use DVD Shrink and save as VOB files and then use Nero to burn - this will circumvent the 4GB limitation.

DVD Shrink program and guides available from this site.

If you are using XP you might want to consider switching to the NTFS file system. You can use a free program called Partition Magic 8.Here is a link to a thread you might want to check out go to the bottom of the third page look for ScubaPete's comments here is the link
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/105641
You will find a link to the software there as well as some more info on NTFS. It seems ScubaPete knows all!!!

hey gang,
thanks for the help, much appreciated.

hey wild, that thread you sent me - shut up!
i think it answered every question i've ever had, if i would have known about this 'scuba pete' cat a couple of months ago i would have flown him across the big pond and made him my brother-in-law.

not to ramble on and get too philosophical but, i do want to say that i don't spend a whole lot of time on and around computers but in my opinion these forums that exist because of the internet restore my faith in my fellow man.(person) it's pretty damn cool to see how much people are willing to help others.

my advice to other newbies like myself, use these forums but use them wisely. almost everything you could want to know is covered, sometimes it's just hard to find. sometimes even i wince when i see yet another post asking why they can't burn DVD-R media in their DVD+R only burner, not because it's inherent knowledge but because it is covered extensively and as S.P. says - these senior guys had to learn it the hard way, the least we newbies can do is at least attempt a little research.

OU812 - i'm going for the big conversion. i'll let you know. thanks.
