When burning DVD's is it advisable to use labels or is it better to just
write on the DVD with Magic Marker?

Misaligned labels will throw your DVD off-balance and cause vibrations in your drive and may render it unreadable. If you want that professional look, buy a $80 thermal printer (probably need those DVDs designed for thermal printing too). I use the Sharpie marker. I only care about the movie quality, not the label which I will look at for a total of 5 seconds.

I've hear that the label incorrectly applied can cause problems. I've personally never experienced it. I've done hundreds of labels. I would also say that I only use quality labels, Fellows ect never store brand. and always use a label stomper/applier stand/tool. I personally like the labels it gives it a finsihed touch, an un-copied look if you will, but then again I'm extremely anal about everything. lol.

Sharpies all the way. I personally don't see the need to make my backups purdy since they're just that - backups. If you want all the fanciness then an inexpensive inkjet that prints to disc is a very nice option :)

With an inkjet you could make some very nice custom labels to print to the discs :)
