File, ISO, IFO differences in decrypter?

i've been using dvd shrink and dvd decrypter to burn my movies. i always have decrypter set to ISO on the mode tab and haven't had any major problems. correct me if i'm wrong here...i would select FILE if i need to compress the movie, right? this may sound dumb, but i thought i had been doing that all along anyway even w/ ISO selected. is there a tutorial or guide here that would explain how, when, or why i would need to use each one?

You do not need to use file mode to compress.
Programs other than shrink that can't break encryption, may not be able to open an ISO and then you would need to use file mode if you are using Decrypter to rip.
Some people use Decrypter in File mode on those movies that Shrink can't rip.
IFO is generally used for ripping audio only.
