OK, so you go thru the motions of decoding and encoding just to burn a cd as vcd or svcd. I mean it doesn't even seems worth it. I went back to compare the mpeg2 file with the original avi file and it's a huge difference!!!
I don't understand why we can't simply burn the divx or avi file straight to a CD-R!!!
I had to wait 20 hours to encode half a movie with TMPGenc into mpeg2 just to get the result of every 30 seconds a tiny jump and big pixels popping up now and then.
It is all just too frustrating......

No one's really that stupid that they re-encode AVIs to VCD and don't have any particular reason of doing so?-)
People who appreciate standards and like their home theater system more than their PC, are the ones who prefer backuping DVD movies to SVCD format instead of DivX.
As long as Pioneer, Sony, etc brandnames don't manufacture 300+1 players that are capable of playing DivX files from CDs, I'm gonna stick with SVCD format and ignore as much as I can.

So are you saying that there is a way to burn divx directly to CD without converting to svcd and thereby loosing quality? If so then HOW?
I only play the stuff on my PC so that isn't a question.
Now I am REALLY confused!

Eh, just burn the damn DivX file to CD just like you burn any other file, like GIFs or zip files.

I'm sorry- what?!?!?!
I've gone through the whole last 2 weeks for nothing?
Sorry had to vent.
Now-let's start from the top. I set up a-what type of format for burning to burn divx with out it wanting to encode or something?
I realize this may all sound foolish to you, but I only just bought the dang burner and really don't know a thing. Tthe best I got to do was burn a few music CD's, Now that 's something I do know about....
Waiting for your reply,
Bo

Heck no!
I download divx/avi files from the internet. (thank you DSL). All I want to do is then save the files to play at later dates on my computer.
Which is why I thought I had to convert to svcd to burn them like that.
Aparently I don't- now what do I do?

Select "data CD" as your format and drag&drop the divx-file to the CD layout, select "burn" and that's about it. Terms may wary in different CD burning tools, but that's really the very, very basic feature all CD burning tools have.

So I should be able to burn the divx/avi with Nero and then load them in my dvd player and watch them on my PC. That easy?
I will let you know....
Bo

Yeah, data cd is like storing on the hard-drive, doesn´t change the format or anything.
