magic3.1+ problems

i installed a magic3.1+ in a v.7 ps2 with the chip on it finds the backup and shows it as ps2 disk but when i try to play it it goes to the red screen it does this with all ps1 ps2 dvd back ups and originals now the spin when i turn off the chip it works fine i have removed the chip and reinstalled it 4 times with the same results i have obtained install diagrams from many sources an the install is correct i have checked for bridge points/solder balls with magnifing glass i am completely stumped did i just get a bad chip or do the magic3.1+/v.7ps2 combo just suck.....oh with the chip enabled it reads original dvds as ps2 games how weird is that
