I'm looking into buying a premodded slim PS2. They offer a Matrix Infinity chip, a DMS 4 Pro chip, or a DMS 4 Lite. I can't seem to find the difference between the DMS4 Pro and the Matrix Infinity. Does anybody know of one?

The difference between the DMS 4 Pro and Lite is that the Pro has 2 Mb of flash memory. Does the Lite have flash memory too? What would I use the flash memory for?

Thanks so much for any help

The lite does not have a flash memory.
I would go with the dms4 pro beca use you can get a toxic operating system for it which has loads of cool features.
* Run PS2 games directly from your HDD. This leads to decreased loading times and makes gaming so much more convenient. Never again will you need to endure those painfully slow loading times!
* Auto-detect and non-swap booting of all disc types (PS2, DVD, PSX, etc)
* Compatible with all PS2 models V1-V12
* Dev.olution mode (from memory card and HDD)
* DVD region free, Macrovision removal and green screen fix for the DVD player
* Auto-ATAD patching for HDD-enabled games
* Fast boot mode
* Support for the HDD browser upgrade on a non-Sony HDD
* Set default boot mode to: Normal, MC/HDD Dev.olution, Fast Boot
* Playstation 2 game video fix (Colour Carrier, PAL, NTSC, PAL60), with
automatic y-position correction
* Playstation 1 game video fix
* Enable MegaMemory memory cards without the need for the boot disc
* Configuration menu where various settings can be manipulated
* "Toxic" logo displayed at the PS2 logo screen
* When booting from Dev.olution mode or Fast Boot, games use correct language
* Modchip disable mode, for online gaming
* 100% boot rate

Features planned for future TOXiC OS releases include:

* Integrated cheat device, allowing you to use cheats while playing games
from the HDD or CD/DVD without requiring a 3rd party cheating product.
* 48-bit LBA support which will allow HDD's larger than 137GB to be fully
utilised.
* Support for installing DVD-9 games to the HDD.
* The ability to launch PS2/PSX games and DVD movies directly from ToxicOS, turning it into a complete browser replacement.
* The ability to manipulate console settings such as screen size, date/time from inside of ToxicOS.
* Support for installing homebrew applications to the HDD or memory card. This will provide similar functionality to DMS Explorer/CC BootManager etc.
* Some suprises which we know you'll love!

WOW that sounds great. I'd love to watch all of my AVI movies and TV shows. So the Matrix Infinity doesn't let you do that? Does the DMS 4 Pro come preloaded with those programs or do I have to load them myself? Do they give you directions on how to do that?

You jut burn toxic on a cd and boot it in your ps2 and it will save onto the chip.
The matrix infinity does let you do that but you have to use ps2 media player or something.
But remember toxic doesnt support this yet but it will soon when they bring out newer versions of the operating system.

Ok, First the DMS4 lite is flash upgradable. It just dosesnt have the amount of flash memory as the Pro does. The larger flash memory in the pro Ed, allows you to store ELF's in it's internal memory as opposed to storing them in your memory card or CD/DVD. Yes, you can watch AVI and play Mp3s on the matrix infinity from your Dev1 mc0 (memory card); you can add HD loader to the memory card with matrix infinity so you dont need a cd in the tray to boot eather one.

DMS4 Lite = 128k flash memory
DMS4 Pro = 2mb flash memory

The Toxic Team is not an offical program, technically its illegal since the DMS team is not the maker of the updates and they made the chip.The Toxic program is a third party flash upgrade for the DMS4 modchips by Team Toxic. That said I have heard there are no problems with the programming and the toxic flashes seem to be very stable.

:-)

I personally installed a matrix infinity in my unit since it has 4x the flash memory as the DMS4 lite and even with the DMS4 pro its only 2MB, with the infinity manager it makes it simple to add programs to your memeory card and the memory card is much bigger then 2mbs. All the 512k flash on the Matrix Infinity is dedicated to feature/future updates of the chip and not to boot programs from the chip itself. I would rather use the infinity manager to boot my Homebrew apps (emus,hdloader,media player 1.5,ps2os), then using the chip. You can also install stuff on the HD with the matrix, and boot games directly from the drive.

imo the dms4 has far to many bugs and verry little support . matrix or crystal is the way to go . even a dms3 plus would be better than a dms4 .

Ok I'm having the Matrix Infinity installed. I'm shipping my ps2 off today. Is there any way you could give me the links to the apps that load AVI files, emu's etc.? If not can you at least give me the name of these programs so that I can look for them myself? Thanks so much.

Hi
can any one give me the diff between ripper 3.1 and dms4 pro.

Ripper 3.1 has 4MB flash memory, it has it's own media player to play AVI, mp3 files.
The only concern with the DMS4 is, I have seen so many people complaining about overheating of PS2. I am not sure it is an installation problem or chip problem.

Ripper 3.1 seems to have all the features of DMS4 pro

Does any one have more info?

Ok, well first people keep talking about the DMS4 as having all these features; But in fact it can only handle all those features, cause the DMS Team's inital flash sucks and has little in the way of features!

Offical Flash/s:

http://www.dms3.com/cgi-bin/dms4/site.pl?page=specs-dms4_professional

Toxic is a thrid party software provider for the chip!

As for the "Ripper" chip. It's rather new but does come packed with first party features to boot. Most people might not realize this but the mp3, & AVI player included is accually the reality player (one of the same programs I use) but with the few bug fixes from the ripper team (Reality Player v1.51 as opposed to v1.50).
Also comes with HD loader with some bug fixes as well for the chip. Since these softwares only work with the ripper chip as stated on there webpage it makes me wonder if they will update it when newer regular versions of softwares become available.

(information on chip,& source of Info)
Ripper Specs
http://www.ripper3.com/r3-specs.htm

the media player and HDloader infomation is located near the bottom of the specs.

Here are things to search for online, to find the apps you seek ;-)

1) Reality Media Player

2) hdloader

3) most emulation sites will list console based emulator's

Have Fun :-)
