help: copying xbox hard drive to another xbox hard drive

Is it possible to copy a modded xbox hard drive to a different hard drive?

I don't want to lose my data on the one I have.
I had someone else install the hard drive for me but they are charging me an arm and a leg to get a bigger hard drive.

I have basic computer knowledge, would it be possible to do this on my own?

do I just have to ftp the information from the xbox hard drive to the hard drive in my computer? and then back again to the xbox?

can i just install the new hard drive in my computer then ftp the old stuff to the new hard drive in my computer or will the formatting be wrong?

Please help.
