Well what are you trying to use the hard drive for? HDLoader or to go online?

well since your ps2 is not modded, you need to buy an original pressed copy of HD Loader or HD Advance to load the games off your hard drive. once you get that program either you can rip the games onto your ps2 hard drive with that program or you can put it in your computer and do it with a free program called WinHIIP(which is much faster i've heard). obviously you'll need a dvd-rom to rip them from pc to ps2.

you could buy a flip top and do the MC exploit...

http://www.maxconsole.com/?mode=comments&newsid=2387&start=7

you won't need to buy the hd loader or hd advance, plus you'll be able to play other games you back up if you HD fills up

the knife trick is for really cheap people who don't want to buy the slidecard...works the same way but you still need the swap magics.

you don't need a fliptop and swapmagic disks for playing games off your hard drive. they are for playing backup games.

If your ps2 is not modded, and if you don't have/want a flip-top, you will need:

1 the original hdadvance cd/dvd,
2 the network adapter,
3 a compatible hard-drive.

You can then backup your games using your ps2, or use winhiip, but that would need a little technician skill, as you need to hook the ps2 hard-drive to your computer (this is very easy).

Another method used, is the memory card exploit. for that you only need an original PS1 CD and a hacked/free software installed on your memory card !! yes, this seems the best, but to get this free software on your memory card, you will need the original swapmagic disk with a gameshark, or a fliptop with a gameshark, and then you will have to burn a special hacked disk you will create, that will transfer the files from the cd to your mc.
the second method costs a bit more, except of course if you already have a gameshark and flip-top or swapmagic disks.

you can also use the mc exploit using an unmodded ps2, hdadvance, a cross link network cable, and a ftp server on your ps2 (look for instructions on this forums, keyword execftp)
