Entire file (video clip) won't play all the way

Some of the MPEG files that I have won't play all the way to the end. I know that they have more content be cause when I click on the slider to scroll to another part a new part to the file will apear. When the new part apears the video stops but the audio contenues. Sometimes the video will show that the file is done but the audio will still be going. Other times the video will begin to play but will stop again.

I think it is a problem with my MPEG decoder. Windows (XP SP2) won't let me delete the codec responsible either. When I tried to use movie maker it create clips that had every part of the file intact. When I attempt to create a movie file from the clips Movie Maker errors and has to close. Has this ever happend before to anyone?
