Reading disc but game not loading... Please Help!!

I need help. When I put a game into my PS2 I go to the browser screen and it briefly says "Reading Disc" but disc only spins about a quarter turn and the game does not boot. It never says "Disc Read Error". Does anybody know what is wrong and how I can fix it?

Hi, Yes it is an orginal game, brand new in fact. It won't play DVDs either.
