I'm having my PS2 modded by a professional, he's offering three different chips for me to choose. However, it's quite hard to say which one's the best. O2Mod looks pretty cool with its auto-identifying abilities but I might be missing something. What do you people think? Thanks in advance.
Can anyone answer this, I also have the same qiestion. I searched old threads etc and most seem to say go for the matrix infinity, but hey things can change overnight if someone invents something new or releases a better model. Is matrix infinity still the best? Does it depend what ps2 version you have? If so I have a v7.
I called the owner of the modding store yesterday. However he couldn't tell me which mod works best, just that they're all good...
In addition to these three mods the store I was talking about will receive a shipment of the Pro version of DMS4 mods on Monday, I heard. I am aware that the only difference between the Pro and the Lite versions is the size of the flash memory. However, I have no clue about what use the bigger memory has.
I remember reading something about an OS that can be installed on the chip, could someone tell me something about it? What is it capable of doing, and what'll it be capable of doing in the near future?
I can't say which chip is the best, but I can say the Matrix Infinity is an excellent chip. I have one in my v9. It boots anything I put in it, and hasn't failed me yet. Its future proof also, as it can be updated to keep up with new security measures.
I think that all the chips are pretty much the same anyway.
I decided on the O2mod chip, took my PS2 to the store yesterday. I'll report you on how it works when I get it, unfortunately it seems like I'll have to live without my PS2 for a week or two.
I thought I'd bump this old thread a bit since I finally got my PS2.
O2Mod is working like a miracle, I like it better than Matrix Infinity. They do about the same thing but I prefer o2mod's menus. Also when you boot you'll see for yourself which mode is selected - Automatic, PS1, PS2, Modchip off or modchip settings. There are two different "preferences modes". You can copy and delete files on MC thru the other mode, backup mod's flash etc, and the other is for general settings.
Automatic mode (=not pressing anything on boot) has worked flawlessly so far. Also, the chip detects .AVI / .mp3 / .ogg etc files and will automatically start the designated program on boot. However, it's also possible to bind programs on each of the shoulder buttons.
All in all, I'd recommend the chip for anyone with a PAL machine. As far as I know there isn't one for NTSC consoles yet.
