Help with JVC dvd Player

I dont know much about dvd players and this problem has me stumped. I have a JVC XV-M567 dvd player and its about 3 or 4 years old. I've never had any problems with it until now. But its an odd problem. For some reason the player will not play many of my dvds in widescreen. I put in a copy of Army of Darkness today, at the menu selected "Widescreen" but when it played, it played the entire move in full screen. I've had this movie for sometime and this has never happened before. I tried other movies and some it would play in widescreen and others it wouldn't. Its the same with my Aliens Quadrilogy..for some reason it refuses to play "Aliens" in widescreen but it will play the rest of them in ws. Any ideas of what might cause this sort of problem?
