Hello to all.
I plan to burn a tape of live theater to DVD. It's 90 minutes long. I believe it won't fit in a single DVD, right?
Should I capture at DVD-Standard using my Hauppage 250 and convert using DVD Shrink or similar or should I capture using a lower quality MPEG format and burn as-is to the DVD-R.
Thanks in advance.

60mins of normal quality = full single layer DVD
I would use DVD Shrink. You should get better quality that way.

I always thought you got 2 hours on a 4.38gig dvd. All of mine do.
How does DVD Shrink give you better quality? Surely if you have to use shrink, you will compress.
Most people think that if you compress the quality will be LOWER.

Pulsar,
Proufo's options were to either capture in a lower MPEG quality OR to use DVD Shrink afterwards. (read first post)
I think DVD Shrink will give you a better result out of these options.
60mins of footage from a digital camera is one full DVD. Proufo is sourcing from a "tape". I assumed it was recorded using a camera. But it does depend on the original quality used...he mentioned "DVD-Standard" for capturing.

Yes, in audio one believes that capturing at the output resolution is the best bet but my guess is that DVDShrink has better algorithms than the Hauppage, which is forced to digitize in real time.
Thanks for your replies.

Proufo,
I don't think DVD Shrink compresses the audio, only the video. SO if you care more about the audio than the video, then DVD Shrink is the way to go.

Hello again.
I checked DVDShrink and I can't find a way to use it to shrink MPEG files, just DVDs.
How can I shrink a MPEG-2 file to 4 GBs to author and burn a DVD?
Thanks in advance.

Hi There PPL,
I too would like to know how to further compress an M-Peg 2 file to fit a simgle layer 4.7Gb (4.2) DVD-R.
Is there any software out there in cyberspace that will allow a fairly lossless further compression of said file?
Cheers Guys.
Just because it can be done effectively and efficiently already doesn't mean there isn't a better way of doing it.
