I installed the platinum dvd x program on my laptop, but when I burn DVDs they never work afterward. The program will say, "Burn completed successfully" but the copy will never play on any dvd player including the computer that I used to burn it. The computer will give me an error message that says "Windows can not read from this disk, the disk might be corrupted,or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows. Some of my friends use this same program and they do not have any problems. Please help. My laptop burner is a DVD+R/RW and I use blank dvd+r to record on. I really, really, really need some help. Thanks

Perhaps you could try using DVDDecrypter to rip the movie to your harddrive, DVD Shrink to compress the movie from your harddrive and either use Nero or DVDDecrypter to burn your movie.
DVDDecrypter is free as is DVDShrink and Nero has a free trial period.
Good Luck,
Pete

Windows media player is probably the worst for playing backups. It is by microsoft of course, they are renowned for only producing high quality products!
I have windvd, it plays all of my copies.

Hello,
I use maxell dvd+r blank media to record onto. I have tried everything under the sun to burn a dvd and it WILL NOT WORK!!! I was wondering about the normal dvd burners, that can be bought in the store. Do they burn copyrighted or protected dvd's, if so what is the best model to get. I need one ASAP!! Thank you.

It is the software which overcomes the copyright protection, not the burner. All a burner does is burn the info, the software is the key here. I use Slysofts' anydvd to overcome protection issues, as well as unlocking the infamous "region code lock out" farce by the manufacturers. It would appear that industry would like to make it as difficult as possible for us to do ANYTHING with the goods we buy from them with our hard earned cash!
Manufacturers can be a complete set of con artists & boneheads. Fortunately for every manufacturer trying to screw us there are literally hundreds of people out there on a personal mission to crack the security measures. E-mail encryption is a jolly good example.
PGP is a company that produces freeware for you to encrypt your messages with. There used to be a 20 year embargo by manufacturers for encryption cracking. That is now out of the window. By using factoring as a method of encryption, the time it would take to crack it is now almost impossible, even with all of the computer power in the world. Hence the CIA use keyboard sniffers to track key strokes, & obtain passwords at source. They know it would take too long to crack the code.
In the States IT suites are lined with tin foil (I know this sounds daft, but my brother used to work for a large American software company) in order to prevent the use of sniffers, the tin foil can easily block the signal the sniffer sends to its' home base! Rather extreme, but I think necessary.
I do not believe in the whole "If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear" bullshit. I have nothing to hide, I also have nothing to show either! The company makes it freeware so that EVERYONE can enjoy privacy for free. (These guys really are tops!)
Makers are rather like governments, they like to think it is our best interests for us to be told what we can & what we cannot do!
JACKASSES.

By the way, as for burners, I like my 2 108s. They have performed really really well so far.
