Hello guys,
I was wondering if you guys would know the optimum way to find the things we are looking for, via the IRC. I have tried downloading stuff through Torrents, but there are too many problems with that, for which no one has replied in the pertaining topic. So, can you guys tell me of the best ways to search for files on the IRC channels? I would appreciate it. Thank you!

I use websites like www.packetnews.com and www.ircspy.com. Now to make life easier, when I see the file I want I click on the pack number on the website and it opens up my mIRC program. Once in the "room" all I do is press ctrl v and it requests the file. Its that simple.

allin, thats probably been the most useful post I've read in a long time. I'm relatively new to irc and don't know how to use XDCC however I get the fastest download speeds from irc, but it takes a little more effort to find things. Torrents are easier to manage however the problem with slow speeds (for non-tech savy users) is a strong detterent. After spending some time researching high speeds I figure that fooling with my firewall and router configurations as a newbie is potentially disastrous and aside from the few 'how to' posts on getting high speeds, if you can't figure that out and you don't have a friend to do it for you, you're on your own or in the same boat as me.

irc is easy once you learn how to use xdcc. its way better than p2p or bit-torrent appz.

uh oh. Experimenting with IRC and was downloading some TV show and then before I know it I can't connect to mIRC anymore. I think somebody banned me but not sure why or how to check? Is there someway to get back connected to mIRC? check if I've been banned? get connected someother way. I don't want to have lost my $20 on nothing.

How is it you're losing $20?

What allin said.
VJbob: If the $20 you're referring to was your registration fee for IRC, you didn't waste it. I doubt you were banned from whatever server because if you were, you'd be auto-killed on connecting, not refused a connection. Even if you were banned, that's just 1 server out of hundreds. Just download your things from a different server (I use ircspy and packetnews, as allin said).
djscoop: BitTorrent is better than P2P and IRC technically.. Some people have more luck with IRC but if they'd use torrents more often they'd eventually see the better half. You said "bit-torrent appz" so I wanted to suggest BitComet (C++: http://www.bitcomet.com/doc/download.htm) and Azureus (Java: http://azureus.sourceforge.net/).
Sorry to just suddenly show up and look like a wiseass.

I'm sure bit torrents are decent, I've just never had any luck with them. The few files I can download go extremely slow, where as with IRC you don't have to share files, and with my dsl I usually DL at 100 to 250 K.
About getting banned, usually the easiest way to get banned is to connect to a server more than once simultaneously. So if you are connected to multiple servers to DL multiple files, make sure you take note of what servers you are already connected to so you don't connect twice.

I've yet to register. I just wait for the warning to time out(about 3 sec) then it lets me connect.

after you click on the packet number, mIRC should pop up and automatically connect to the server, then another window should pop up with the channel. then hit ctrl v, and it should paste in that window, and hit enter. you may be able to start downloading right away, or you might be placed in que. but it helps if you configure mIRC for XDCC connections. check out the guides they have at ircspy.com, they will give you a step by step of how to setup and use mIRC.

when the channel window opens, you have to click on the bottom of it, where there's the blank line to type in. maybe thats why control paste isn't working.
speed usually depends on what type of connection, and what server you're connected too. I have dsl, and average speed is around 80 k, the fastest I've hit is 350 k.

I haven't gotten around to checking out the aD channel yet.
Thats weird, I have the opposite of you with bit torrent. I tried it a few times, and 15K was the max speed I got, so I abandoned it. IRC has much more volume and variety from what I can tell. I think it really depends on where you live for what speed you will get.

no, once you get the ports set up rite and you don't have ne nat problems it's fast for mostly every1. Also, where you get the torrents from matters too. i used lokitorrents and 150 mostly everytime.
I found this website that has all the IRC search engine on the side. It's pretty cool.
http://www.debateroom.com/
Also, i can't find any full size DVD's on mIRC. Does ne1 download DVD's from mIRC and if so where??
