I have an HP external DVD movie writer. It works great...most of the time. Sometimes I get a copyright notification when trying to record from a pre-recorded VHS. I can understand this.. kind of.

But, today, I recored a movie from HBO onto my VHS and when trying to rip my own DVD from that VHS, I got a copyright notice and it won't record.

Does anyone understand how that can be? And if so, is there anyway to bypass this copyright notice?

Not sure why you got the copyright problem on a copy, but there are ways to defeat the macrovision encoding on DVDs and VHS. Just google for "macrovision removal", there are devices that will work for both VHS and DVD players.
