HP DC5000 compatibility with Windows XP SP 2?

I just purchased a HP Movie Writer DC5000 to copy my VHS home videos to DVD. I am running Windows XP Service Pack 2 as my operating system. A number of times during the capture process the software that comes with the DC5000 has frozen. I called their tech support and, after trying a few things, they said that the DC5000 has compatility problems with XP Service Pack 2. Has anyone else experienced this and have you been able to get around it?
