DVD-R to DVD+R, burning and playing

I just purchased a Pioneer DVR-RT500 DVD burner. It will transfer my old VHS tapes to DVD.My problem is the only DVD player that will play what I dubbed to DVD from VHS is this Pioneer player. I have three other DVD players and they will not read the disc.
I also have a Memorexdouble layer DVD-CD player/burner in my PC, and they will not play in there either. Is there a way I can transfer DVD- to DVD+ so they can be played on other systems.
