No DVD playback on my pc

I recently redid my pc and somehow now it won't play back any dvds. It would seem that I have somehow lost the codec...? These are regular, new dvds. I've tried all the standard free players- windows media player, real player, etc. it seems that these all depend on an already present codec.

any suggestions? thanks!
