Greetz All,
I thought i would compile this lil info to help all those stuck a bit on the Hard Drive concept on the Play Station. For those sick of scratching games and you dont want to mod your PS2 this is the way to go. You have 2 options.
1) Purchase Sony HDD Pack. This consits of Sony Hard Drive, Sony Ethernet/Modem Adaptor. The Hard Drive plugs into the back of the Ethernet Adaptor and the the Ethernet Adaptor slims into the back of the PS2 with the Hard drive and jacks itself into the Port on the Expansion Bay. This method will server for Downloading Extra maps for Socom and playing games such as Final Fantasy. But other than that its pretty much limited. Unless you purchase a HDAdvance, or HDLoader(Obsolete) Disc Set. This is compromised of 2 Discs, DVD loader (DVD Games) CD Loader (CD Games). You pop the Disc in and itll provide you with a nice and easy GUI to use. You can use this too copy your Games onto the Hard Drive. Once you done this you boot the PS2 with the Loader Disc (Hdloader or HDAdvance) and you select your game and it boots. Note NOT 100% Compatibility with all games.
2) The second method is simply you use your own hard drive. Not All IDE drives work as some dont fit Perfectly Posting a Problem Check before you buy. But yes you use a 40gig+ Hard Drive connected to a Seperately Purchased Sony Ethernet Adaptor and again this all slips into the back of your PS2 connection to the port in the Expansion bay. Once this is done you purchase either HDAdvance, OR HdLoader (If you have aquired a burnt version of either you WILL REQUIRE a mod chip because they are not Stamped discs.) But if you purchased the Discs you wont require a mod to add a hard drive. Pop either the DVD or CD disc into your PS2 depending on what Game your wisihing to copy onto the PS2. Load up the Friendly HD GUI and then it will guide you on copying your game to the hard Drive. Once done you pop your HDloader/HDAdvance back in and select the game you want to load. Thats all you need from there on in is just the HDLoader/HDadvance discs. Easy.
Hope this guide has helped those with difficulty understanding how the Ethernet Adaptor comes into play with the PS2 and Hard drive.
Greetz to all and have a Happy New Year
