flip top cover for new ps2 needed?

the new playstations are v12 and up correct? cuz i saw this flip top lid for the new playstation 2's but i thought they didnt need flip top lids since they are already flip top. im wondering how you put it in or if theres a better pic so i can see how you put it in. the swap magic website gives instructions on how to just block off 3 sensors without opening the ps2. im hoping to get a new ps2 soon so ide like to purchase swap disks and not sure if i should get this flip top lid. its here

heres a better place to see pics of the flip top. its pretty ugly. do you have to open up the ps2 to install it? if possible, i dont want to void warranty.
