Burning DVD format : .VOB .BUP .IFO files to a DVD-R

Salutations.

I used WinAvi to convert an .AVI movie to DVD format files .VOB .BUP and .IFO. The result is 2 folders : AVDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. The first is empty and the latter contains these files :

VIDEO_TS.BUP 8ko
VIDEO_TS.IFO 8ko
VTS_01_0.BUP 90ko
VTS_01_0.IFO 90ko
VTS_01_1.VOB 2149554ko

I am using Nero 6.3.1.18. Within the Nero Smartstart menu, I click on 'DVD', then 'Photo and Video', then 'Burn DVD-Video Files'. I then add my Video_TS file which replaces the default one. I then get an error message telling me the .VOB file exceeds 2GB...

Anyone?? Thanks...

PS : maybe there is a quicker way to achieve what I want which is basically for my DVD player to read the AVI file....Any suggestion is welcome...thanks!
