MY PS2 TRAY BROKE IT DOES NOT WANT TO OPEN NOR SPIN THE GAME CAN I STILL GET THE HARDDRIVE AND SONY ADAPTER AND HAVE IT WORKING?CUZ I WAZ GONNA GETT HE NEW DMS4 AND THE MAXTOR HD AND DOWNLOAD THE BOIS TO FLASH IT WILL I BE ABLE TO DO IT IF MY TRAY IS BROKEN ON MY PS2 VER 7?

I think u cant , u must load the hd loader disc. For that, the tray of ur ps2 must work

does any 1 know a good place to get a new dvd tray for my ps2...cuz mines is broken and dont wanna read..

you can buy an old ps2 for less 100$ and you can put the adaptor and your hard drive in. I dont think it sell only the tray seperately. It came with the whole ps2 box.

hey cuz i waz reading if u got the new chip dms4 lite u dont need the hdd cd just dl it form the site and just burn the games to ur pc then transfer it to ps2 cant i format the hd from my pc then put it in the ps2

'course you can buy the tray separately, just look for websites that specialize in ps2 repair. check this out: http://www.richspsxparts.com/v7.html if you scroll down to the cd/dvd tray you'll see that it's sold out at the moment. but before you buy a new tray, spend a little bit more time to figure out whats wrong with it. Did you ever open your ps2 before you had the problem? or did it just suddenly stop functioning? a functional cd/dvd drive is essential if you want to use your ps2. if you press eject and listen closely, do you hear the motor struggling?

thank u for the site. i open my ps2 the other day to make sure non of my wires got lose from the chip(magic 3) i had in it. i open my ps2 lots of times...then i put it all back togetther and the tray didnt want to work it wont spin the game cuz i open it up and checked and the laser is gone bad cuz when u play a game befor u can here a clicking noise when it playing..the ps2 power up fine it just that it says on the screen reading the memory card cuz the dvd drive isnt working and i open the dvd drive to look at it and i didnt see unthing burnt or anything..but yes my ps2 has fallen a couple of time to the floor...plz let me know cuz u guys allwayz know what do do and have good infor..i wanna get my ps2 back up as soon as possible..

when was the last time that it worked ok? when it fell to the floor, was it at that point it stopped working? also, when you press eject, does the blue light flash a couple of times? when you press eject does it move slightly or not at all?
if the eject light doesn't flash it might be a ribbon cable problem. check if that the reset/eject cable is securely inserted on BOTH ends.
if i were you i would try to eject it with the case off and the dvd drive lid off. this way you can find out if anything is blocking it. maybe when you dropped it something bent into the path of the tray. if you try to eject it with the case off, be careful and do not look into the lens. check for any movement. if it just moves slightly then the tray is just jammed in the wrong place.
try carefully taking the dvd tray apart, and look for anything jammed, which is probably the case. Good luck!

yes i tryed it and i waz thinking the same thing cuz i looked at it when the case waz off and checked the ribbons to see if there were all hooked up and they were.it worked befor i open it to check the wires of the chip the tray would open and close and read the game.no it does not flash.the light stays like normal when i hit reset it spin the cd a little bit then stops for sum reason?i took the hole thing apart and looked at it and checked the ribbons that controled the part that make it work and they were hooked up fine.the tray would just come out a little bit and get stuck and wont open.it will do a quarter of a turn then stop spinning.

if the ps2 could already open and close, and read the game, then what was the reason to check the wires in the first place?
so you even took apart the dvd drive and tray and did not find anything wrong? if not then thats what you should take a look at, the actual box that holds the dvd tray.
you looked under there and even deeper^(im just talking about that box)? its really important that you do because thats where the problem should be.
yeah since the tray is jammed then the spindle would obviously not spin, since there is no game in it.
try this:
follow the directions carefully, and tell me what happens.

the reason i open my ps2 cuz it wouldnt read my burnt games non of them so i thought 1 of the wires from ym chip might have go discoonected.yes i open the dvd and looked at it i fixed the problem wit the tray not wanting to come out it cuz my tray waz broken on the bottom so it would come out of it guide and it wouldnt open so iam get a new tray.but the games still dont wanna spin it just spins a little bit and stops i had it open and checked all the connection and checked the laser and by having it open and i hit the rest button and the motor would spina little bit and stop and i didnt see the laser move nor unthing?so for now iam buy a new laser and tray and see if it the laser..?u let me know if u think i should check anything else

i can't think of anything else that could be wrong. yes perhaps the laser is fried, if you want you can buy a new laser and tray, but if the laser isn't the problem, i don't know if you can get it refunded. good luck
