Can anyone recomend the best media for backups? I have a pstwo console that supports DVD-RW and DVD+RW and i am going to be using swap magic 3.3 with slim tool.
i was thinking of using philips DVD+RW will they work? i am on a bugdet so i can't spend too much max i can spend is £10 or $10.
also about burning, i want to only use NERO to burn the ps2 DVDs can this be done on NERO? if so a step by step guide would be good.

About Nero, if you want to copy a game, just do copy dvd. if you want to burn an ISO or BIN, just right click on the image and open with Nero. I use Nero and it works good for me. DVD Decrypter works better, but it's your choice.

personally, I wouldnt backup anything using RW's, but if it works, then ok. Ritek is the best way to go in terms of DVDs you can experiment with others like philips, but according to everyone I've talked to, ritek works the best.

i have just looked up ritek, and it's so so cheap £2.99 for 10 DVDs!!, are you sure it's good media for ps2 games? becasue i want the game loading times not to be too long. if so i am going to by a load of these!
by the way my pstwo does suports DVD+RW DVD-RW so i think i will grab a few of those too.

Isn't it great? Ritek G04 is apparently the BEST media you can use for PS2 backups. Most people have 100% compatability. I haven't used them myself, though. (I accedently just bought some crappy Target brand DVDs, so I'm gona use those first)

Personally, in my experience with burning games, it doesn't really matter as long as you burn them at 4x or less. Hell, even faster as long as you know your burner has a buffer underrun protection basiclly not allowing your burner to go below a sudgested buffer %. I have burned on AT LEAST 4 different media brands & have had success with all. Usually the cheaper ones sometimes need to be burned a second time just to get it right but for the most part, no costers either. Just to let you all know it really doesn't, I am using a 50-pk of Verbatim right now. This sin't the first time I have used these either because they are blank faced, cheap, & reliable. I also use them for DVD movies(those are a little different though & quality of the DVD DOES REALLY matter when burning movies) Other than that I have seen no real BEST one. Just buy whatever you feel is reliable. You might have to try a few brands but just don't buy in bulk. Try a few out & then work your way from there. To tell you the truth, I think I have used almost every name brand DVD+R out there to backup games so you choose.

Also, SwapMagic also has the PS2 drivers which are needed to load the backup. these drivers are loaded onto the center of the disc(where we as normal DVD burner owners) cannot do. Unless, u have a very expensive DVD press which can burn on that particular area of the CD/DVD(which u will have to purchase very expensive CD/DVDs just so that u can get them w/o the center already burned on but in the end results in basiclly the original but on a backup.) I don't know about any of u but do u have a professional DVD press/burner? Don't think anyone does & if u do...why aren't u makin' some money? Heh.

Does it really matter if you use dvd-r or dvd+r, i've heard that +r's really aren't good for the lazer in backing up games. Is there any truth behind that or ...?

Here is the truth coming from a man with a v7 PS2 & i use DVD+Rs for all of my backing up(PS2, data, or DVD.) The older PS2s(like v1-6 not sure exactly which ones) cannot read DVD+Rs. Newer PS2s like mine, can read both +Rs & -Rs. So if you have a newer PS2 there is no real difference(I have never had probelms with my lazer on my console, DVD blank discs, burner, ect.) As long as they are burned properly & booted properly, they should work(unless a CD Loader is neede but thas another story)
